Beating the Frustration of Can’t Find a Job You Like
Having trouble finding a job that you truly like can be disheartening. You may be stuck searching endlessly, sending out countless resumes, and trying to make connections. If you feel like you’re getting nowhere this can be incredibly demoralizing. Don’t give up! We’re here to help you get on the right track to find the job that you want!
1. Narrow Your Focus
Sometimes part of the issue is that you’re looking too broadly. Think through your long term career goals, and use those to focus your job search. Identify the necessary qualifications you need to get your foot in the door in your ideal job, and focus on looking for openings that fit that description. Keep in mind that you don’t necessarily have to include all of them in your current job search – you may be able to get into some of these qualifications through trainings, workshops, and classes in your own time!
2. Reach Out Locally
When you’re feeling stuck in your search, one of the best things you can do is to reach out to local businesses and see what opportunity they might be able to provide you. Invite yourself in for a visit or call and ask to speak to the manager. Oftentimes local businesses just don’t have the platform to get the word out about open positions they might have.
3. Branch Out
If you’re set on a particular job category or field, it may be difficult to find an opening that matches your dream job specifications. In this case it might be beneficial to look outside of your normal scope of jobs and consider working towards positions that are related. For example, if you’re looking for a job in marketing you might consider taking on a customer service position at an advertising agency to get your foot in the door and demonstrate your talents and commitment.
4. Get Creative
You may find that you have the qualifications needed for the job that you want, but haven’t been able to get your foot in the door. Consider creating your own job! Use the skills that you have to create a position that would fit into your desired field, and market yourself as a freelancer or contractor. You can even find work through platforms such as Fiverr or Upwork.
Getting the job that you want is possible!
Don’t get discouraged. Pay attention to what job openings are available in the field that you want, and allow yourself the flexibility to start in a related field if necessary. With perseverance and dedication, you can set yourself on the path towards the dream job that you want!
